FAQs

Waxing allows the hair to be removed at the root. Almost any area of the body can be waxed, including~ eyebrows, face, bikini area, legs, arms, back, abdomen and feet.  This means that both men and women can be sexy smooth and hair free.

I use a hard and soft wax process, which allows for easy removal, whatever the area. This waxing technique is beneficial to people who have sensitive skin. With over 30 years of in the industry of professional skin care, be confident that you can be guaranteed a superior experience!

This method is semi-permanent and new hair will typically not grow back in that area for 2-8 weeks and when it does, your hair growth will be significantly thinner and lighter.  If you have a specific question or do not see your  question answered, please feel free to contact me anytime.
  • If you need to reschedule or cancel your appointment, please give a minimum of 24 hours advance notice as a courtesy
  • Hair growth, ideally, should be approximately 1/4 inch long (typically 3-4 weeks growth)
  • We do not wax over sunburned or hyper-sensitive skin (if medication is being taken, consult with a physician first)
  • No sun, steam or whirlpools 24 hours before of after your service
  • Ibuprofin can be taken before or after to help reduce pain sensitivity or swelling
  • For women on their menstrual cycle, it is best to avoid waxing due to extra sensitivity that some experience. However, this is not an issue with regards to scheduling an appointment

Questions? Here are some answers...

Why Wax?
Professionals are doing the work, so your style should look picture perfect.  And because your hair is being pulled out by the root, your new look will last longer-4 to 6 weeks!  If waxing is done for several years, permanent hair reduction is possible.

What is a Brazilian Wax?
The Brazilian wax basically takes is ALL away, sometimes leaving just a tiny strip of closely shorn hair in the front (which is then referred to by some as a "landing strip", a "playboy" or inverted "v".  Just ask, no question is too embarrassing.

Is it okay to shave in between wax appointments?
Shaving in between appointments does not cause any harm, but your hair growth may not lessen as quickly.

What can I do about ingrown hairs?
Exfoliation is key! Daily use of a loofah or Riffi Mitt, which is highly recommended by The Wax Diva.  Exfoliation helps to smooth out skin texture (cellulite) and promotes healthy metabolism. Please feel free to ask for advice if this is a concern.

About Miss Tamara (aka The Wax Diva)
The Wax Diva Hillcrest Hair Removal
Tamara has been in the Beauty industry for 30 years!!

She received her Cosmetology certificate @ San Diego City College  Cosmetology Department  in 1984.  Later she  studied  advanced skincare at the 'Euro Institute of Naturopathic Skincare ' of Bellevue Washington in 1999.

From there, the Wax bug hit her. It was while working at Spa Nordstrom where she noticed that waxing services were starting to grow!!  And fellows gay and straight  were starting to embrace smooth skin, not just the ladies.

She also noticed how uncomfortable some clients felt  that were of various genders asking for specific waxing services!.  The aestheticians were tolerant but not quite welcoming.  So she decided to open a wax boutique specializing in waxing.

With the LGBT in mind, Tamara wanted to create a place that welcomes all genders.  So, In the fall of 2001 'Gimme some skin" was born and so was a true waxing diva.

Tamara enjoys creating an environment where clients have a safe comfortable place to get beautiful.  Most importantly, she enjoys making all her clients laugh and have a memorable  experience.
