4 Top Tips for Skin Care

4/1/2016

Hello Spring!  It is the season of rebirth, the season where we start fresh and new.  This is the time to shed that winter skin - time to exfoliate, to nourish and create a healthy soft, smooth skin.

I truly enjoy helping my clients feel sexy and confident by waxing. I've been doing it for quite a while and enjoy it so -mostly because I just love my clients,  Many of y'all are like family to me - I luv you!!I  Along with waxing, I'd like to talk about more skincare, especially this being Spring time. I want to encourage my clients (now that we are all growing mature together) to take better care of your skin.

In the past two years, I've been practicing and adding more skincare to my menu of aesthetic talents.  Wiith this in mind, I wanted to share 2 product lines that I've been working with that I think are wonderful and also share my 4 Top Tips for Skin Care.
  • If you are someone that wants to take care of your skin organically and you don't want any invasive peels or any strong acids on your skins then I recommend:  skincare products by Jurlique  They use all organic skincare products and have an organic farm tucked away in southern Australia. This is where they grow all their herbs and plants to create essential oils for their products. Jurlique's farm maintains the highest standards of organic gardening, thus creating one of the most  powerful organic skincare lines available.
  •  If you are one of those clients that love cosmeceuticals and powerful peels or your needs are more for corrective skincare, well then I recommend:  iS Innovative Skincare. With their wonderful serums filled with Antioxidants, Vitamin C, Copper Peptides and many multivitamins, This line can correct a variety of needs from; Acne, Premature Aging, Loss of Elasticity and Hyperpigmentation.
  • One of my favorite facials by iS Innovative Skincare is their "Fire and Ice". This is the facial many celebrities in Hollywood are doing, hence it is also sometimes referred to as the "Red Carpet Facial"  This is because it is an intense no downtime peel, nor do you have to wait a week to see results. Now, technology is so advanced that they have created this peel with a low pH balance (no peeling or molting) which means that you don't have to suffer to have beautiful glowing skin

So don't forget, please wear sunscreen every day, make sure to reapply, bring along a hat. Call me for a facial appointment to help take care of your skin and follow my top tips below.

STEP 1 : You are unique & so is your skin.  Learn about your skin type to focus your skin care regimen for best results. Do note that your skin care type or conditions can change at different times in your life, so remember to adjust your regimen accordingly.

STEP 2: Your daily skin care routine is important. Washing, moisturizing & exfoliating are critical in turning over new cell growth.  This is the key to that glowing skin we all want
  • Choose a Cleanser to help keep pores clear & avoid over drying.  Don't forget Toner & check out the wide variety of cleansing brushes out there
  • Lotion to hydrate & apply SUNBLOCK! The sun is the biggest factor of aging skin. Choose products with SPF of at least 30 and consider avoiding the sun with gloves while driving, umbrellas, hats or even SPF clothing.

  • Night treatment = researchers have found that new skin cells generate faster while you sleep, so blanket them with good stuff every night to help repair damage from the day's pollution & stress.

Thoughts on moving...

Well here I am in my new waxing boutique looking out at the canyon here in beautiful mission valley!

Looking out my big window now I didn't realize how pretty the canyon and trees are here.  I often drive down Camino Del Rio south on my way home for those that didn’t know, it is a shortcut for me since it is parallel to the 8-East.  Anyhow to get to the subject, I’ve been struggling with either staying or moving away from the little studio I was occupying in Hillcrest on Park Street.

I really am such a Hillcrest girl.  I adore EVERYTHING about Hillcrest - the lovely people who reside and work there,  the open mindedness, the beautiful Australian fig trees that border 5th avenue, and most importantly the loving, free and peaceful energy radiating from within.  Hillcrest is my community of friends and family! I was born a Hippy fruit fly and proud of my LGBT Brothers & Sisters.  As one would imagine, I was quite torn on a decision to leave,  but alas a series of unfortunate events occurred (a fire damaged most) and I was pretty much forced to leave the building - so I relocated.

To be fair, I never was really happy in that building anyway apart from the location.  The building was old and needed some love, but this was the push I needed so I took advanage and reacted quickly.  I wanted to find a place that my clients would feel safe and comfortable.  After searching for a few days, I was able to move my studio to lovely Mission Valley.  I must admit, it’s slowly growing on me and its really not the far, just down the hill :)  I like it because of the nice parklike setting with lots of trees and most importantly plenty of parking!!! Weee yay!! I do hope to see most of you there and must thank those that have visited me already.  These past two weeks have flown by as I’ve been busy making it a nice cozy place for you to enjoy and relax (if one can relax) during waxing services.  Can't wait to share my new cozy waxing boutique with y'all!

Peace and love to all!!

Sun tips from The Wax Diva
Skin cancer ~Yuk!! So what’s up with this skin cancer? Well, living in a city dubbed “Sunny San Diego” would naturally mean that we are exposed to lots of sun.  And this naturally requires quite a bit of effort to practice good sun sense and being diligent about it.

First off - the days of "lying about" in the sun should be over for most everyone!! A day in the park or beach with a hat, parasol , long sleeve shirt and and plenty of sunscreen slathered on is more like it.  I feel like this is growing concern and a major topic of conversation even among my clients.

Becoming more sun aware is our responsibility to ourselves so we can care for our beautiful bodies!  Remember that approximately 90% of non melanoma skin cancers and 65% of melanomas are associated with exposure to UV radiation from the sun.  Here are some suggestions to focus on:

  • Wear Sunscreen – this should be applied daily and I recommend one with broad spectrum protection and SPF 30.  For more info on this click here.

  • Clothing – This is your first line of defense from UV rays and it works by absorbing or blocking much of this radiation.  So focus on your exposed areas – neck, ears, hands, face.  If you know you’ll be in the sun for long periods, you might want to think about long sleeves/pants or hat/gloves.  In addition, lots of merchants are now offering sun protective clothing with built in SPF protection– just Google it!

  • Shade – Sometimes walking on the sunny side of the street is not the best idea, especially if you are trying to avoid the sun.  And remember, even in the shade you can still receive a lot of sun exposure via UV rays.  Did you know that a recent study in the Journal of the American Academy of Dermatology revealed that nearly 53% of skin cancers in the US occur on the left side of the body?  So - seek the shade and maybe even get  a sun parasol J

  • For your Eyes – Do you really need an excuse to wear a great pair of shades?  Over time, the sun’s rays can damage the eyes and surrounding sensitive skin which can lead to vision loss and conditions like cataracts or even eyelid cancers.  Some tips from the Skin Cancer Foundation can be found here.

The bottom line? - Love and care for your skin.  While the palm trees & endless sunshine is wonderful, it is important to take care out there.  See your dermatologist annually and of course, come in and see me for facials and or recommendations for sunscreens.  Happy safe summer y’all!!
xoxo, Tamara - The Wax Diva :)

As a licensed Esthetician since 1999, skin care is something I am passionate about.  Skin care doesn't have to be costly and my favorite tips listed below are ones that anyone can start doing...TODAY.   Good skin care and healthy lifestyle choices can help to delay the natural aging process and prevent various skin problems.  So put on some sunblock and read on...
  • Drink plenty of water

  • Get plenty of sleep

  • Stay away from coffee ~
 Green tea is best

  • Limit alcohol intake

  • There are foods that feed your skin and foods that give you wrinkles...51% of your food should be raw!!
!  The more colorful the better
                          - FATTY FISH!
Salmon (sockeye or pacific ) stay away from Atlantic farmed.  Sardines & can tuna in oil are                              wonderful too.
                          - Think GREEN.  Leafy greens like kale or spinach
                          - ANTIOXIDANT Heaven.  Sweet grape tomatoes, fresh berries - blueberries, blackberries, raspberries &                                  strawberries

Happy New Year!! This is the time to say goodbye to 2014, reflect about the last 12 months and make plans for the new one ahead.

Looking back, it was quite a good year. I moved back to San Diego on Jan 15th and 2 weeks later I found myself working at a lovely Spa.  Yes lovely, but not quite what I wanted.  I really missed working for myself and pampering my clients to a higher level and taking as much time with them as I like and as they needed.

So before I knew it in June, I reopened up my own doors again.  This time as "The Wax Diva" - formerly known as "Gimme Some Skin”.  I was ready to work - I started sending out monthly email blasts, started up my Wax Diva Facebook page and hitting social media…but you always have to hold your breath.  Is the business going to come?  And San Diego has changed, with so many new waxing studios out there, is there enough room for me?

And so it began - the waiting.  The uncertainty.  I’m sure you’ve experienced this before, whether it be a new relationship, a new job prospect or even something like getting a new car.  It’s that feeling of hoping that the little voice inside of you is sending you down the right path and being scared that its not all at the same time.  But to not try or not do, that’s simply out of the question…

I must report that the little voice inside of me is feeling very happy.  My business is growing again, slowly but surely. I have been so pleased to see the response when reaching out to clients - old and new ones.  I didn't realize that I have so many loyal clients that were eager to welcome me back and return to me.  I'm blessed that so many of you are comfortable and relaxed in my li’l cozy waxing boutique and enjoy the ambiance I try to create for everyone.

Looking forward, brings a huge smile to my face.  I have great plans to pamper all my clients a little more and focus on growing just a little bigger.  I plan to do this by beginning to offer pedicures & manicures, of course Diva Style Pedis & Manis for sure.  And the growing a little bigger, means renting a larger studio to support these extra pamperings :)  It goes without saying that this doesn't mean I’ll forget about things like; Taco Tuesdays, Weenie Wednesdays, & Birthday Specials.  These have all gotten quite a response in 2014.

I think the New Year is naturally a great time to put things into perspective and to explicitly declare what you want in 2015.  These are my business goals, and of course I have my personal resolutions that may or may not intersect with my business life.  Ones like eat better or ride my bike more…but I wanted to not only write these down for myself but to also share them with you.  Because where I am right now is a direct result of my clients. So thanks to everyone for making my first 6 months back in business promising and fulfilling.

Looking forward to seeing ya'll in 2015.  I appreciate and love you all very much!!!

xoxo Tamara
